Our staff are trained to high standard and are now expected to have a Diploma level 2 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care prior to starting with us in a care role. Our staff will then receive training as recommended by Skills for Care where courses such as Health & Safety, First Aid Awareness, Moving & Handling and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults are all provided within the first 3 months of appointment.

All staff receive induction training which continues until the new member of staff is confident and competent to manage tasks alone. Our managers provide regular supervision to staff to support them to ensure that our standards of care are being met. Training is provided by external companies who are either members of the National Skills Academy for social care or whose training is CPD certified.

Staff at Unicorn Projects are encouraged to fulfill their own potential and enhance their career prospects through ongoing training. Many of our staff have now enrolled or have passed further training on The Safe Handling of Medicines and Mental Health Awareness.

We will always use a 'People First' approach to care:-

• Respecting personal space and privacy.

• Considering and finding a balance between risk, decision making and personal choices.

• Respect of the individual. Crisis prevention.

• Acknowledgement of Human Rights and adherence to the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

• Facilitating development of personal potential.

• Valuing people as unique individuals.
